digitalbucket.net Roadmap Update

clock April 27, 2009 15:59 by Admin

We would like to give our customers an update on what the team is working on. We've received some great input and comments from our users and we are updating our roadmap to accommodate these and other great features. This is not a detailed roadmap; we just want to talk about a few major features we are working on right now. We are planning a big release in the next 2 months. I can say this is our biggest release so far.

  • We are moving our servers to Amazon’s Cloud Computing. As you might know we are currently utilizing Amazon S3 for our backend storage. S3 has worked for us flawlessly without any major issue. As the business grows, there is a need to upgrade hardware to answer the customers' demands. We are excited that Amazon EC2 can deliver that highly reliable and scalable platform that our customers are expecting from us.
  • Mobile Access. We are developing an application so users can access their files using their mobile devices. Users will be able to login to the digitalbucket.net account from their mobile browsers and access the files.
  • File Upload/Update notification. This feature allows the administrator to setup an email notification when a file in a shared folder gets uploaded or updated. It also allows the admin to specify what sub-account should get the notification email.
  • Search inside your files. This enables the users to search for the keywords in doc, docx, pdf and txt files. This is a very nice feature that can be helpful finding files easily based on the file contents.
  • Slick Image Viewer. We have Photo Albums but this is a different feature. This feature allows the user to preview the image files in a regular folder with Next, Previous and slideshow capabilities.
  • Send and Receive Faxes. We have teamed with InterFax.net; the leading Internet Fax provider. If you are interested in this feature you will need to sign up for an account at Interfax. You will be able to Send faxes by right clicking on the Office document, PDF, images etc from you digitalbucket.net account. You can also manage, view and save your received faxes in your account.
  • Enhanced User Interface. We are on top of our game with our slick and easy to use User Interface. The good news is it's getting even better. These are just a few of the many major announcements we have in store for our Digitalbucket.net community. Stay tuned for more information coming soon....

Mac Finder bug not fixed since version 10.5.3

clock April 12, 2009 19:02 by Admin

Apple has had this annoying Finder bug since version 10.5.3 which causes issues with WebDAV file copies. This issue is still not fixed in the latest Mac OS X.

What makes this even more frustrating is that Apple has known about the problem and has not done anything to fix it. (For my Apple readers, you can follow the discussions here, here and here).

All other operating systems are working fine except Mac OS X 10.5.3 and later.

We've tried everything possible to get this resolved – Contacted Apple Support, reviewed our WebDAV source code a thousand times and tested different usage scenarios. Finally, we decided to completely redesign our WebDAV software architecture to resolve this issue.

The good news is we have fixed this issue even though we didn't cause the problem. We are proud of this accomplishment because this proves our commitment to being an excellent service provider and striving to enhance our customer's experience.

Apparently these kind of nasty bugs have been a case with other service providers as well.
