Amazon EC2 with Windows Server: Coming Soon

clock October 21, 2008 16:34 by Admin

We are excited that Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) finally is going to offer the ability to run Microsoft Windows Server and Microsoft SQL Server starting later this Fall.

This is absolutely great news for us at digitalbucket.net. We have been asking AWS team about Windows on EC2 since we started this business almost 2 years ago. EC2 offers variety of Unix-based operating systems which is not an option for us to use.

AWS competitors have been promising they’d be coming out for years now and I’m shocked they’ve given Amazon this much runway. Now, we’re extremely happy with Amazon, so we have no plans to switch, but competition is good for everyone - and Amazon is a fierce competitor.

With this new EC2 offering we definitely going to plan to migrate our hosted servers to the cloud computing and be more fierce competitor. That will translate even higher scalability, reliability and of course lower prices for our customers. Stay tuned.
